Twenty years ago, I got to hold a little baby in my arms — my first niece. Since then, there have been plenty more. One day, I hope to buy one of these for each of them:
Maybe I’m not a big deal.
Either way, these speak the truth.
But really, here are a few reasons why being an aunt is WAY better than being a mom:
1. You’re always the “fun” one.
You don’t have to discipline. There’s the one moment where you tell them not to stick their finger up their nose, but the rest of the time you get to play, laugh, and have fun.
2. No poopy diapers.
No explanation required.
3. It’s a special treat to have you around.
You are the excuse that the kids get to stay up later or that prize that is withheld until they do something good. Of course that makes you feel better! No one is mad at you or calling for your resignation—you’re a prize.
4. The hugs, cuddles, and kisses.
Okay. You get this as a mom. But there’s nothing better in the world than someone who will cuddle up with you. Trust me, I’ve tried it out for the last four days.
So while I sometimes moan about my singleness, I’m grateful that I get to play aunt to some really awesome and darling kids. Now, don’t mind me while I scamper away for a bit.
